Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)

Driving people to a web site - and turning them into customers - is best-achieved through a combination of push and pull marketing.

The push is achieved through methods such as public relations and advertising; the pull through clever SEO.

If people are searching for a product or service you offer, they're already a hot prospect.

  • SEO'd web sites should make sense to users, not just search engines
  • SEO isn't a dark art
  • SEO isn't a one-off - it's a continual process

  • We do this intelligently - the web site has to remain user-friendly after all
  • We can work on initial drafts or "final" copy

Google Juice, n, the unseen substance that flows between web pages through their hyperlinksThe links between web pages and/or web sites that users click to move through the web..

If a page has a lot of inbound linksThe links that point towards a web page or web site. eg, a link from the BBC News web site to a page on another web site would be an inbound link for that second web site. they acquire Google Juice and pages which link to "juicy" pages enjoy a degree of reflected Google Juice.

We will work closely with your team to identify good sources of juice and - are we stretching this one too far? - make sure your web site remains 'freshly squeezed'.

White hat SEO

A lot of SEO specialists are nothing more than snake oil sellers in a digital age. They promise the world and, on face value, will deliver on that promise.

  • They'll list you in 1001 search engines - can you name more than four that are relevant?
  • They want to include links to lots of outside sites - that'll help those linked to more than you
  • They want to include a lump of keywords in white text on a white background at the bottom of every page - a shortcut to Google's ban list

We always work within Google's best practice principlesThis link will open a new window and show you Google's best practice principles in situ.

  • Make pages primarily for users, not for search engines. Don't deceive your users or present different content to search engines than you display to users, which is commonly referred to as "cloaking."
  • Avoid tricks intended to improve search engine rankings. A good rule of thumb is whether you'd feel comfortable explaining what you've done to a website that competes with you. Another useful test is to ask, "Does this help my users? Would I do this if search engines didn't exist?"
  • Don't participate in link schemes designed to increase your site's ranking or PageRank. In particular, avoid links to web spammers or "bad neighborhoods" on the web, as your own ranking may be affected adversely by those links.
  • Don't use unauthorized computer programs to submit pages, check rankings, etc. Such programs consume computing resources and violate our Terms of Service. Google does not recommend the use of products such as WebPosition Gold™ that send automatic or programmatic queries to Google.
