Internet Explorer 6 and why it must die

Internet Explorer 6 was released in 2001, to tie-up with Windows XP. Beacuse of that operating system's ubiquity, it quickly gained 95 per cent market share - despite not being very good.

In the intervening years, technology has changed out of all recongnition and what is possible in web design has followed-suit. Unless you're still using Internet Explorer 6 (IE6).

  • IE6 is the cause of the majority of security issues affecting Windows PCs
  • IE6 doesn't show web sites that same way as other web browsers - so sites cost more to build
  • This site uses some (we think) nifty tricks - that just don't work on IE6

Using IE6 costs money

Almost every web site developed has to be tested in 'proper' web browsers and then IE6.

Either compromises are made - or taking this site as an example - slight variations of the site are delivered to IE6 users.

Upgrade now - you will thank us!

If you *must* use Internet Explorer - upgrade to IE8 (yes, that's two whole versions better than what you're using!).

Personally speaking, we wouldn't touch it with a barge pole - but some people like it.

We can recommend Firefox 3+, Safari 4+ and Chrome. All of 'em are fab.
